Bali — pools that vanish into the canopy
Ubud has perfected the jungle-edge infinity look, with teak decking and rim-flow water that pours into invisible catchments. The best villas are built into hillsides above the Ayung river, where the canopy stretches uninterrupted to the horizon.
Phuket & Koh Samui — sea-cliff variants
On the Thai islands, the same idea is rendered with seascape instead of jungle. Kamala (Phuket) and the quieter side of Koh Samui have a handful of villas where the pool perches on basalt outcrops, fifty meters above breaking surf.
Why a private villa beats a resort here
Resort infinity pools are shared; villa infinity pools are not. For a similar nightly rate to a luxury resort suite, you get the entire pool to yourself, plus a private chef and butler in most cases. The math works almost every time for groups of four or more.
